XNatura conducted satellite monitoring of Italian airports using Flora technology, developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). Flora is based on the analysis of satellite images to provide an accurate assessment of the biodiversity present in the territories surrounding airports. A quantitative method that, thanks to artificial intelligence, allows for the precise and continuous definition of changes in land use and, therefore, in the flora of a specific area.
Through satellite monitoring on 60 Italian airport sites using Flora technology, it was possible to analyze satellite images and use artificial intelligence models to examine a total of 14,000 hectares, covering a large area surrounding airports. This assessment provided a large-scale overview of the biodiversity potential of the different areas monitored, enabling the identification of possible optimal sites for field monitoring and ongoing monitoring of vegetation dynamics.
Each XNatura assessment and monitoring suite is based on standard and recognized protocols that help you understand the priority level of your sites in relation to nature, biodiversity, and climate.
